IN THE MORNING

i prepared myself for the traveling of the day to
ibadan
i approached my aunty’s room
and knocked at the door
she told me to come in and i did
she was still on her bed when i walk in
i greeted her and she responded
i told her i’m about to go (she knew about it)
she told me she almost forgot
“have you inform your
girlfriend?”
she asked jokely
what is she talking about or as loveth discuse
anything with her?
“my girlfriend?”
i asked her like i don’t know what she was
saying
“please don’t give me that look”
she said while opening the bed drawer
“abum nwa du nima ji mali ife
neme ni?(i’m i a baby that don’t
know what is going on?”
she said as she was giving me some cash
“manage this and call me once
you get there”
she concluded
i don’t need to argue with her on the issue of
my affair with loveth if i don’t want to ridicule
myself
its very obvious that she know of what we have

“aunty, wow i didn’t expect
this, thank you so much ”
i thank her
from aunty’s room i went to loveth room but
she was not there
i met her at the door when i was living her room
we exchange greeting and also told about my
traveling
i counted #5000 out of the money(of which i
don’t know how much exactly she give
me)aunty gave me
and stretched it out to loveth to take
“please manage this”
i said
she smile like someone that say ‘when do you
start this’
“chucks you will need it more
than i do, please keep it”
she said while squeezing my fist with the
money
she asked when am i coming back
i told her i can’t really say untill i there(ibadan)
first and see what is on ground
she looked straight into my eyes for awhile
befor she planted a soft take care kiss on my
lips
“safe journey dear”
she said
i turned to go back into my room and pick my
car key when i heard her voice
“i’m sure you have not taking
this morning,
or have you?”
she ask
i told her not to get worry that i will find
something to eat when i get there(ibadan)
i was thinking i will be able to hold the hunger
till i get to ibadan but the case was not like
i park at the front of one cafetaria at show boy
(very closs to ORE juction) to eat something
i ate to my satisfaction befor i continue with my
journey
in less than 3hrs i entered challeng round about
(ibadan)
i was approaching D’Rovans hotel at ring road
when Tope’s call came in, i ignored it
he called again and i also ignored it
i don’t like picking calls when driving
i saw my sister’s husband coming out of his
compound
he opened the gate for me to come in when he
saw me behind the wheel
we exchange greeting befor he leed me in
where i saw my sister and her friends
dicsussing
i greeted them all
my sister was happy for seeing me again
she introduce me to her friends of which i know
two among them
as her old friends
her new friends greeted me maturely but the
once i knew just welcome me like a small boy i
use to be
i excuse myself from them to join my inlaw
where he was sitting
i keep myself busy charting with him befor
remembery to call my aunty
i put a call to her
when she pick i told her i entered ibadan safely
and we also talked on some other things
i told her ‘bye’ and i was about to end the call
when she said
“have you call loveth?”
“auntyyyyyy”
i said
“don’t tyy me, i know what i’m
talking about”
she said
nawa for dis woman o, wetin con bi dis trouble

abi na wetin she even want self
i was still talking in my mind when i heard her
saying
“its writing over her that she
loves you
you just search your heart if
you need her and if not then let
her be”
i was supprise and shocked by the way she said
it
“i’m sorry for saying this now
this is the wrong time for it
anyway just extend my
greetings to Nkechi(my sister)
and her children”
she didn’t even say ‘good bye’ befor she end
the call
for me not to think of it i quickly put a call to
Tope
“ah ore,je kin pe e
pada(friend,let me call you
back)”
few seconds later he called back
“hello Toppy”
i said
“oh boy no vex o
i just dey hear about your
mother’s death
where you dey now?
he asked
i told him i just entered IB
he was happy to hear that
he wanted to know where i was for him to come
i promise to go to his place the following day
befor i dop the call
my sister came back to me after seeing her
friends off
we discused alot
i told her i will like to visit our elder brother also
branch UCH to see my mother’s corpse
she tried to convince me to wait till the
following day befor i can but i refuse
her husband supported me befor she agreed to
go with me
ON THE ROAD
we(myself and my sister) were in my jeep
talking on how to meet with other family
members for proper buria when my brother
called
he told me to start coming to his place when i
let him know that i was around
i was driving through mokola to songo when an
international call came in
