Lady in the Lake: Natalie Portman Thriller Gets Premiere Date at Apple TV+

Lady in the Lake, the upcoming thriller led by Natalie Portman, now has a premiere date for Apple TV+. The seven-episode limited series will make its global debut with its first two episodes on Friday, July 19. From there, new episodes will be released every Friday through August 23.

The forthcoming drama series is based on the 2019 New York Times best-selling novel by author Laura Lippman and it focuses on the disappearance of a young girl in the 1960s.

What’s the story of Lady in the Lake, and who else is in the cast?

The story takes shape as the disappearance of a young girl captures the attention of the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966. In particular, the lives of two women converge on what’s described as a “fatal collision course”, per the official synopsis.

Golden Globe and Oscar winner Portman plays Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife that’s looking to leave a hidden past behind and reemerge as an investigative journalist. Meanwhile, Emmy nominee Moses Ingram plays Cleo Sherwood. She’s a mother who’s balancing the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while also struggling to provide for her family. The lives of Maddie and Cleo seem to have some sort of connection, at first. But everything changes when Maddie grows fixated on Maddie’s mystifying death which leads everything into danger.

Along with Portman and Ingram, the cast includes Y’lan Noel, Brett Gelman, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, Josiah Cross, Mikey Madison, and Pruitt Taylor Vince. It hails from Honey Boy director Alma Har’el, who also helmed the concert film Shadow Kingdom: The Early Songs of Bob Dylan.

Hailing from Fifth Season, Lady in the Lake is produced by Crazyrose and Bad Wolf America. It is created, executive produced, written, and directed by Har’el alongside producing partner Christopher Leggett. In addition to starring, Portman serves as executive producer alongside producing partner Sophie Mas. Nathan Ross and the late Jean-Marc Vallée serve as executive producers for Crazyrose, and Julie Gardner executive produces for Bad Wolf America. Layne Eskridge, Amy Kaufman, Boaz Yakin, and author Lippmann also executive produce.
