“Ehem” my mum coughed capturing everybody’s attention. Mark was already putting on his boxers and fastening his belt before we noticed her.

“Who are you to remove the speck of dust from her eyes when you have a log of wood in yours” my mum said with so much hurt in her eyes as she moved closer to me. (Hmmm! I am finished o God, Jesus take the wheel) twai! Was the next sound I heard, jeez! The hot slap was on my face. Mum had slapped me, that was the first time ever she slapped me. (My mum scold her children but not with slaps. She hates it)
“You little brat I carried for nine months” she uttered immediately she slapped me “you have the guts to try to deceive me for the past three months, u and this irresponsible b-----d” she added pointing to Mark, who was looking down at his feet probably regretting why he ever worked with the “Okere” family.

“I. . .” I stammered. I don’t even have anything relevant to say.

Another slap from my mum on that same cheek. This time, tears flowed from my eyes. “What is BELLEPHOBIA you take me for a fool? I waited for you to tell me the truth, in fact who got you pregnant?” She said this time clutching her fist as tears dropped from her eyes. “Answer me. Or u don’t know?” She added with a shaky voice when I hesitated to speak “obune u kema agwa?” ( meaning – is it not you I am talking to?) “Ehm.. He is the one” I said pointing to mark with shaky fingers when it seems she was planning to hit me again. “I thought as much, Mr man, your are a disgrace to your profession, you have the guts to fornicate with two sisters, Ehn, doesn’t it sound like an abomination to you?” She shouted now facing Mark as she used the edge of her wrapper to wipe tears out of her face.

“Eheehn what do u have to say” mum threw at Mark when she noticed he moved forward. “Am….sorry…re…really sorry Ma” he managed to say.

“And you child of the devil, ewu! Get up and cover your nakedness, shameless Ezi” (ewu – goat. *Ezi pig). Rachael quickly stood up, picked up her cloths and started to put them on with urgency. “You are a disgrace to your father’s family not mine because God knows that I married Samson as a virgin” she said as she removed the key from the key hole, left the room, closed the door and the next thing we heard was the jingling of keys.

Mum locked us all in the room!!
